Style

by Peter Selgin

I was walking down the street one day. I was with someone, and we wanted to talk. We also wanted to have a drink. It made sense to go to a bar.

No it didn't. Because the bar was too loud. You could talk, but you couldn't listen; you couldn't hear.

I know, I know. Bars are supposed to be noisy, they've always been noisy. Not this noisy. Not on a Tuesday night with the bar nearly empty, and the noise issuing from a stereo system.

So I asked -- yelled, over the blaring of someone's idea of music -- "CAN YOU LOWER THE MUSIC?"
